The Pinegrove was built in 1877 for a wealthy wine merchant and his family. Today, many original features still remain.

The bishop of Carlisle owned the Pinegrove for a period of time, during which it was used as a 'Monk's Haven'.

At Some Time during the last century, the Pinegrove was sold and converted to a Hotel. It was then developed to accommodate its large function suite and additional bedrooms.
